In August
of 2001 the littlerockracingscene.com ezboard was born. During the
beginning of that year we got hooked up with the Arkansas F-Body club.
That increased our membership to over 30 and the message board was
off and running! We used the ezboard as a means to chat, hang out,
set up meets, etc. The message board saw tremendous growth during
that year, simply by word of mouth advertisement. Before long, we
were over 100 members strong! At that point we decided to register
our domain name and create a website. We also came up with certain
rules governing how a person would be able to join our group. It was
determined that small and tight nit would be the way to go. Therefore,
our rules for membership were fairly strict compared to other racing
sites. All new members were required to have a current member agree
to sponsor them to the board. No person was allowed to enter the forums
without a sponsor!
Fast
forward to August of 2003. Our membership has increased to over 160
members. At this time we grew tired of dealing with the ezboard fees
and decided to purchase dedicated message board software. One of our
members graciously agreed to let us use his server to host the forums
and website. All of our other ‘VIP’ members came up with
the funds to purchase our board software. Thankfully we are graced
with talented members, one of which takes care of all our graphics
and web design.
The latest
news for LRRS is a revamp of our group and policies. As of this date
we have decided to form a more structured organization with actual
titles and roles for leadership, including President, secretary, treasurer,
etc. It was also time for a little change. We decided to open up a
portion of the board for public membership. New members are no longer
required to have a sponsor to join. These ‘newbies’ are
able to register an account and view or post in select areas of our
site. This gives us a chance to get to know the new folks and determine
if they are the kind of people we want on our site. After certain
requirements have been met, including securing a sponsor, the person’s
status can be upgraded to a full member and will be allowed to view
or post in all general population areas of the site. The last rung
on the ladder is an upgrade to ‘VIP’ status. To get to
this elite level of membership the person must meet a time requirement
as well as pass a vote by the board members and other VIP members
to be allowed into the VIP section. This is where most of the board
business is voted on and decided.
Well,
that’s it in a ‘not so’ nutshell. Our membership
is continuing to grow and we are working hard to maintain our close
nit group of friends.
